Gumbo Limbo Florida’s Super Tree

Posted by Picasa
With its rapid growth and the power to resist the winds of a hurricane the Bursera simaruba or gumbo limbo how is commonly known has qualities worthy of admiration.
These low maintenance and ecologically friendly trees are favored by Florida residents because of their rapid growth, adaptability to various types of habitats and high tolerance to wind.  Even though they are often used for shade & ornamental purposes they also provide a source of food for many local birds creating a great atmosphere in their ecosystem.
Small branches of this super tree planted in good soil will quickly grow into a beautiful tree after a few years. Some even say that the resin of this tree can be used in the treatment of gout and the leaves can be brewed into a kind of medicinal with anti-inflammatory qualities.
Talk about a tree with character, such strength and such beauty makes this tree a true environmental hero; no wander why they are the center of attention in the Florida Landscape.
